Snow globes are very popular in the market. It’s originally designed as a paperweight, but its purpose has gone beyond that. It became a house décor, figurine, souvenir items and even toys to children. Some snowglobes are even personalized to serve as memorabilia. Because of its charm and its growing number of designs and concepts, snowglobes are fancied and collected by many people.

If you want to create a collection of your own, you could check these simple tips for you to have a unique collection.

1. Start with a Theme in mind

You don’t just start buying numbers of snowglobes when you start your collection. There are vast themes of these domes in the market. There are city themes, Hollywood artists, cartoon characters and a lot more. If you buy these items randomly you are going to end up with a messy themed collection. Though they are all snow globes, their mismatched designs would make them look disorganized.

2. Start with Few Good Collections

It is not always true that when you say collection, it would mean “massive collection”. Thus, instead of buying a dozens of cheap snowglobes, you better start your collection with few yet very good ones. Do not always go for cheap and affordable ones, because they might be made up of very flimsy material and wouldn’t last for long.

3. Research about Snowglobes

You have to read about snowglobes. You have to learn about what you are collecting and fall in love with it while you are learning more about it. Furthermore, reading about it, would acquaint you to many collectors and would get a chance to hear about their tips regarding snowglobes.

4. Look for the Unique Pieces

Do not just go for the simple glass domes with falling glitters or snow. Extend your collection with the more exciting pieces. Like those musical snowglobes which sings to tunes of its design. Be careful with those though, there are other cheap snowglobes that plays a very different and contrasting music from its design. Like a Hearts and Love designed snowglobe with a tune of a Happy Birthday Song.

Making a snowglobe is actually easy. They are not very expensive compared to other collectible items. Furthermore, if you really take good care of your collection, it would last for years. You could even give them as legacies to your grandchildren.

Snow globes are very popular in the market. It’s originally designed as a paperweight, but its purpose has gone beyond that. It became a house décor, figurine, souvenir items and even toys to children. Some snowglobes are even personalized to serve as memorabilia.

To make your snowglobe collection last for decades, here are some few tips on maintaining your snow globe collections:

1. Dust them often

It is the simplest and very obvious tip yet people still don’t do it. If you make it a habit to dust your snow globes, it would need less care in the future. Dust accumulation will cause our globes to look old and discolored. Furthermore, they lodge into the carvings and is harder to remove.

2. Use Mild Cleaner

In case you have dusted your snowglobes less often, and dirts and dust have made your globes old. Clean it with mild cleaner. You may use a window cleaner for the glass of the snowglobe. Make sure you would not use abrasive brushes or sponges in them.

3. Beware of Extreme Temperatures

Extreme heat and extreme cold can cause bubbles in your snowglobe. Therefore, store them or place them in the area of the house against the sunlight and far from the window. Extreme cold can also cause leaks while the extreme heat causes evaporation.

4. Do not over wind the Musical Key

There are snowglobes that comes with musical tunes. If a kid wants to play with your snowglobe, make sure you instruct her to just rotate the key twice to be safe. Over winding it will cause the spring inside to break. That would no longer be possible to repair once it happened.

5. Store your globes few centimeters apart from each other

Do not overcrowd your snowglobes in your shelves. Make sure that you leave a space of approximately half an inch at least to prevent glass scratches and breakage.

6. Store them in a Wall mounted Cabinet

Wall mount cabinets or shelves are sturdier than the standing ones. You never know when accidents happen. Kids might be playing and accidentally collides in your cabinet , then it wobbles and breaks the globes inside. It's always better safe than sorry.

Snowglobes are very nice to collect and they really add beauty in your home. Therefore, take good care of your snowglobes and see it becoming a treasure to you and to your family.

Snow globes are the dome shaped figurines which has water and glitters in it. There are usually beautiful panoramas, or figurines inside the globe for its design. The glitters or white particles of these snow globes fall over the scenery when you shake these domes. It looks just like what it is during winters.

These balls usually have ceramic bases with glass domes. They were derived from the concept of paperweights. There is no clear history as to when they first appeared. It was thought that they were evolved from the popular glass paperweights during the earlier times. Snow globes appeared at the Paris Universal Expo of 1878 and by the following year, there have been more production of these paperweights.

Then a popular design of Eiffel tower snowglobe was mass produced to commemorate International Exposition in Paris which marked the centennial anniversary of the French Revolution. Then, it became very popular in England during the Victorian Era and in the early 1920s. Then there was a time that it became a popular gift in Europe, especially those Religious designs.

Snow globe spread across Europe to different countries. Its designs have also evolved. The usual sceneries of towers and Religious artifacts evolved into wider variations. The designs became more versatile, with a collection of cartoon characters for children. There are also personalized snowglobes which are made just to your liking. Furthermore, the concept of snowglobe has evolved to not just figurines but musical boxes, toys and collectible items.

Nowadays, more sophisticated snowglobes are in stores. There is already music coming out of the figurine, and there are even globes which have built in blowers. You wouldn’t have to shake them to appreciate the snow. Few years from now, together with the evolving technology, snowglobes would surely be more wonderful.
